How BPExch works: back, lay, liability and commission
The odds ladder, back and lay bets, liability, trading out and commission, each in a few sentences with the numbers, then one PSL over that shows all of them.
On BPExch you back an outcome (win stake × (odds − 1)) or lay it (take the backer's stake and risk a liability of stake × (odds − 1)). Prices are set by players on a ladder of blue back and pink lay columns. Back high then lay lower to lock a profit. The platform charges commission only on net winnings in a market, commonly 2–5%.
| Back (lagai) | Bet that an outcome happens; win stake × (odds − 1) |
| Lay (khai) | Bet that it does not; risk the liability |
| Liability | Backer's stake × (odds − 1), held while the bet is open |
| Bhav | Odds quoted as profit on 100: “85” = 1.85 |
| Commission | On net winnings per market only |
| Matched / unmatched | Only matched money is at risk |
How to read the odds ladder
Each selection shows two columns: blue for back prices and pink for lay prices, each with the amount of money waiting at that price. The best back price is the highest blue; the best lay price is the lowest pink. The gap between them is the spread; on PSL match odds it is usually one or two ticks. The price moves ball by ball because players, not a bookmaker, are setting it.
What is a back bet?
A bet that the outcome will happen. Back Pakistan with Rs 1,000 at 2.14: if Pakistan win you receive Rs 1,140 profit; if they lose you lose the Rs 1,000. Your maximum loss is your stake.
What is a lay bet?
A bet that the outcome will not happen. You take a backer's stake and promise to pay their winnings if they are right. Lay Pakistan for Rs 1,000 at 2.16: if Pakistan lose you keep the Rs 1,000; if they win you pay Rs 1,160. That Rs 1,160 is your liability, and the platform holds it from your balance while the bet is open.
Why does liability surprise beginners?
Because at odds above 2.0 the liability is bigger than the stake you typed. Lay Rs 1,000 at 6.0 and Rs 5,000 is held. The bet slip shows the liability before you confirm; the odds calculator shows it for any price. Full worked tables are in liability and green book explained.
One over, both sides
- Before the over: back Pakistan Rs 2,000 at 2.50. Win: +3,000. Lose: −2,000.
- Two boundaries later the price shortens to 1.80. Lay Pakistan for (2,000 × 2.50) ÷ 1.80 = Rs 2,778. Liability held: Rs 2,222.
- Result either way: Pakistan win: 3,000 − 2,222 = +778. Pakistan lose: −2,000 + 2,778 = +778. A green book: profit on both outcomes, before commission.
If the price had drifted against you instead, the same lay would produce a small equal loss on both outcomes, which is still better than the full stake. That choice is what an exchange offers that a bookmaker does not.
How does commission work?
A percentage of your net winnings in a market, commonly 2–5% and set in your account terms, charged once at settlement and only if the market finished in profit. Never on stakes, deposits, withdrawals or losing markets. Effective odds after commission are 1 + (odds − 1) × (1 − commission): a 2.00 price at 5% pays 1.95.
Matched, unmatched, suspended
A bet is matched when someone takes the other side at your price; until then it is unmatched, at no risk, and can be cancelled. Markets suspend for a few seconds at wickets and boundaries; that is normal. Session and fancy markets follow the same back/lay logic with a runs line; see BPExch cricket. The vocabulary, lagai, khai, bhav, lambi, is in the glossary.
Questions we get asked about this
What is the difference between back and lay?
Back bets that an outcome happens and risks the stake. Lay bets that it does not, takes the backer's stake, and risks the liability: stake × (odds − 1).
What is liability on BPExch?
The most a lay bet can lose: backer's stake × (odds − 1), held from your balance until the market settles.
How do I read odds like 85 or 150?
Pakistani shorthand for profit on a 100 stake: 85 means 1.85, 150 means 2.50. The platform shows decimal prices.
How much is BPExch commission?
Commonly 2–5% of net winnings per market, set in your account terms. Never charged on losses, stakes, deposits or withdrawals.
Lagai aur khai ka matlab kya hai?
Lagai: team jeetegi, is par bet. Khai: team nahi jeetegi; jeet gayi to aap doosre ka munafa dete hain, jo liability kehlata hai.
